SJR Worksop Reach Final

Mansfield Town and SJR Worksop will contest the final of this year’s East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Plate after both picked up comfortable, semi-final success, on Sunday afternoon.

The former of the two, led by Andi Bell, will also contest the Notts FA County Cup final, and won 3-0 away to Chesterfield to make the Plate final also; a penalty from Shannon Purdy afforded the Stags a one-goal interval lead, before a second half brace from Olivia Standeven saw them through.

They’ll face first-time finalists, Lee Scott’s SJR Worksop side, in the final, after they put on a second-half showing to see off visitors Nottingham Trent University, easing to a 4-0 win.

Goalless at the break SJR would progress thank to a second half brace from Laura Ferguson, and one apiece from Emily Myatt, and captain Charlotte Finch.

In the league, just a handful of Division One games were played in the EMWRFL, Notts County Development embroiled in an eight-goal thriller with visiting Grimsby Borough, which finished 4-4, Sherwood edged visiting Grimsby Town 1-0, and Arnold Eagles lost by the same when home to Gainsborough Trinity.

Basford United U23s progressed in the Notts Girls & Ladies League Seniors Plate following a 12-2 win away to West Bridgford Colts Development, Kenya Holmes-Morgan and Katie Platts both bagging four each, whilst Scarlett Owen-Jones grabbed a brace.

In the NGL Seniors One, Newark Town has a one-point lead following a 7-2 home win over NTU Pink, Connie Forman with three and Jessica Hogg two, whilst third place Calverton Miners Welfare also hit seven, winning 7-0 at home to Arnold Eagles Development, Stacey Peacock with a brace.

Second place Radcliffe Olympic were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Lowdham Colts, University of Nottingham won 5-2 against visiting Blidworth Welfare, and Hucknall Town won 3-0 at Mansfield Town Development.

Notts County were beaten 4-1 away to Leafield Athletic in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands, Shoniqua Barnes with the consolation midway through the second half.
