Barnes Breaks Bad As Basford Beaten
It was a sad weekend for Basford United who saw Josh Barnes badly injured after breaking his ankle and fibula during a 4-0 defeat at home to Lancaster City. The club have set up a gofundme page for the former Nottingham Forest youngster who is these days also a fitness coach outside of playing football part time, with the aim to donate towards any lost earnings that Josh may suffer during a lengthy rehabilitation process, you can contribute here or share the fundraiser to help wish the player a speedy recovery.
The injury to Barnes actually came in the 86th minute of their match with Lancaster on Saturday, which was abandoned early, with the Ambers well down on the scorecards, it’s likely the result will stand but there may be a call to replay the game, should the 4-0 loss be verified it leaves United 20th in the 22 team Northern Premier League table a good five points from safety, it’s looking harder and harder for the struggling team of late who were also beaten by Hucknall Town in the semi-finals of the Notts Senior Cup last week, the Yellows 2-0 victory courtesy of two Brad Wells goals ensuring they’ll play Newark & Sherwood in the final.
Top of the non-league Notts clubs right now, Worksop Town are still going strong in the NPL now standalone second in the division behind runaway leaders Macclesfield.
The Tigers beat Mickleover 6-0 at the weekend with goals from Aaron Martin, Aleks Starcenko, Jordan Burrow, Tyreace Palmer and two from Vaughan Redford.
In the NPL East Division there was a 1-0 win for eighth placed Carlton Town who beat North Ferriby thanks to a second half Lamin Manneh strike.
After their bus broke down last week en-route to Cleethorpes, Sherwood Colliery’s misery continues after a 4-1 home defeat against Brighouse Town. Sherwood are second bottom but do have some hope, they are still only four points off eighteenth and safety with nine games to play.
In the United Counties League Premier Division North it was a cracking weekend for Eastwood who beat bottom of the table Shirebrook 4-0 to stay top of the table by four points. Tyler Blake got the Red Badgers off to the perfect start before adding a second in the second half, further strikes from Lyndon Joyce and Ryan Tait crowning a good day on the Derbyshire border.
Other Notts based sides going well in the Division, AFC Mansfield are fifth and in the final playoff place right now, the Bulls beat Ashby Ivanhoe 2-1 in Leicestershire on Saturday with a last minute winner from substitute Jake Batty after Kaylum Mitchell had provided a 70th minute lead which was for a short time only cancelled out by Oliver Bradshaw.
Newark Town are sixth but didn’t feature at the weekend, mid table Newark & Sherwood were beaten 1-0 at Deeping Rangers whilst Hucknall drew 0-0 with Skegness. Finally Kimberley MW lost 2-1 at home to Wisbech.
