Boxing Returns As Leivars Flies Mansfield Flag
The Nottingham Arena welcomes Matchroom Boxing back this coming Saturday (25 January) night, with a fight card featuring several stars from across the Midlands, title fights, and another outing for Mansfield’s own, Nico Leivars.
Debuting back in early 2022, at the Nottingham Arena, Leivars, now 25-years-old, has a fight ledger of 6-0-1; 1, going into this weekends’ contest, where he opposes Walsall’s Lewis Morris (8-3; 1), over six rounds (Morris has lost his last two).
The last outing for Leivars, against the Southend-based Pole, Piotr Mirga, at the Sheffield Arena, would see the Notts fighter collect the first stoppage win of his career, taking a ninth-round victory from referee John Latham.
Saturday, that will see an undefeated undercard of Midlands fighters, Leivars being joined by a number of West Midlands combatants in Traie Duberry, Ibraheem Sulaimaan, and Hamza Uddin, that trio boasting thirteen successes between them.
As for the other end of the fight card, it’s as mentioned, titles galore, with outings for Ellie Scotney, Harry Scarff, and Dalton Smith, two of whom are also undefeated.
Londoner, Scotney, brings a 9-0 record to the ring, and is challenged by an undefeated, 20-0; 8, fighter, in New Zealander, Mea Motu, she fighting away from home for only the second time; that is for three titles, with the IBF, IBO and WBO World Super Bantamweight straps on the line.
Derbyshire’s Harry Scarff, 13-3; 3, and Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker, 14-3-1; 8, are in a domestic dust-up, over twelve rounds, for the British and Commonwealth Welterweight titles; Walker defeated Newcastle’s Lewis Ritson in his last outing whilst Scarff, also losing his last appearance, against German-based Ukrainian Karen Chukhadzhian, actually won the British, Commonwealth, and IBF European titles, off Nottingham’s Ekow Essuman, the fight prior, back in November 2023.
As for the headline contest, that belongs to undefeated Sheffield fighter, Dalton Smith, 16-0; 12, and his opponent, Frenchman Walid Ouizza, 19-2; 8, in what, on paper, looks a hard-hitting contest, between a pair of fighters who share an impressive, twenty knock-outs.
They’ll be vying for the EBU European, and WBC Silver Super Lightweight straps, also over twelve rounds – Smith’s professional fight career, it actually began at the Nottingham Arena, back in May 2019, when he picked up a PTS4 success against Croatian Luka Leskovic, on the Leigh Wood – Ryan Doyle Commonwealth Featherweight title undercard.
