Shepherd Signs But Notts Lose
There were mixed fortunes for Notts County’s trio of sides on Sunday afternoon, their senior and reserve sides both conceding four in home losses in the FA Women’s National League, whilst their development side picked up victory when scoring four in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League.
In the National League Division One Midlands it was to be a 4-1 defeat, at their Coronation Park home, against leaders Northampton Town, who notched twice in the final fifteen to put some daylight on the final outcome.
A game that was level at ones apiece at the interval, Leah Hardy’s goal midway through the half giving County hope; late in the second, after the league leaders had moved 3-1 ahead, County afforded their 19-year-old signing, Eve Shepherd, from Derby County (U21s captain), for her debut.
Having joined the club at the turn of the year, Shepherd said of the move: “I’m really looking forward to getting started!
“It will be a good challenge and an opportunity for me to gain more experience in senior football.”

Meanwhile, County’s reserves were on the end of a 4-2 loss when hosting second bottom Rugby Borough Development, in the Reserves Midlands Division, they now having won five, lost five, of their ten league games to date.
There was a goal-fest in the East Midlands League Plate contest, between Premier Division SJR Worksop, and Division 1 North side, Belper Town, the hosts running riot in an 11-1 victory.
Having previously lost seven straight outings, SJR have won their last two, seeing off Basford in the league back in early December, and have now progressed in the Plate as they look to kick-start their season.
Jessie Needham was on target with a second half consolation for the visitors, but SJR, on their day, can brush most sides away, like they did here; Millee Clarke was on hand with a four-goal salvo for the hosts, whilst substitutes Laura Ferguson and Emily Myatt also found freedom in the visitors’ box with three and two goals respectively.
Further goals were added from the hosts when Emily Murphy and Lauren Brogan also found the back of the net, much to delight of the Rockware Sports Club faithful.

Division One North also saw a handful of Notts clubs in action, Sherwood falling to a 3-0 defeat when away to leaders Gainsborough Trinity, those all coming in the opening twenty-five minutes, whilst County’s development side, they brushed aside Arnold Eagles, 4-0, thanks to a goal in each half from Summer Oliff, with Ava Niven and Gemma Cornes bagging at the end of each half also.
Goals continued to flow in the Notts Girls and Ladies League as well, with several cup matches, and a league match, being played.
In the Seniors Cup quarter-final there was a seven-goal thriller between hosts Newark Town, and visitors Mansfield Town Development, Connie Forman’s hat-trick for the former in vain as her side lost 4-3, the visitors netting through Georgie Shaw, Jessica Waplington, Paige Jarvis, and Tia Richards, to reach the final four.
In the Seniors Plate NTU Pink eased into the second round with a 6-0 home win over Bingham Town, whilst the one league match played in Seniors Division One, that saw Hucknall Town, with four games in hand, move within three points of their hosts, Basford United U23s, in the bottom half of the table, following a 6-1 success, Rebecca Pepper firing four of the victors’ six goals.
