Olympic Edge Kimberley In Goal Packed Weekend
Goals aplenty lit up the Euro Soccer Company Nottinghamshire Senior League on Saturday afternoon as two scored seven on the road for wins, two games finished in 4-4 draws, and cup games were back-and-forth.
It’s in the cup we begin this week, and at Notts Olympic, who won a five-goal thriller when home to Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves, the hosts having led by three, were reduced to ten men, and saw a penalty save.
Olympic, second in Division Two, certainly took the game to their visitors, sitting third in Division One, taking a three-goal lead through Matt Gordon, with one in each half, and debutant Sam Aldridge.
The visitors rallied, got back into the game just after the hour mark through Joe Gillan, before an own-goal with ten minutes left made for a nervy finale; the hosts then had Yuksel Yukselen dismissed for two yellow cards, and Jack Wright even saved a penalty; the hosts hanging on for a huge, 3-2 win.
Other games in the NSL Intermediate Cup saw Gedling Southbank romp to a 7-0 win away to AFC Sandiacre Town, Aaron Darch with three alongside braces from Stephen King and Connaire Seery; The Rossoneri won 5-3 at Wollaton Reserves; AJ Sport won 5-2 at Greyfriars with Luis Bastos and Joshua Golder bagging braces for the victors; Stapleford Town Reserves won 4-0 at Calverton Miners Welfare; and Hucknall Town Reserves won 3-0 at Arnold Town Reserves.
There was also plenty of action in the league, Cotgrave’s 4-4 draw at home to Wollaton (Andrew Thompson a brace for the visitors) seeing them drop two points as they chase the top two of FCV Grace Dieu, and Collingham, the latter of whom also slipped up, losing 2-1 at home to visiting Ruddington Village.
The point for Cotgrave sees them four off top spot and with games in hand on the two above them, and Keyworth United, they moved into fourth place with a 3-1 win away to Southwell City Reserves on Friday night.
FC Sez won 4-2 at home to Woodthorpe Park Rangers (Kaylum Taylor with a hat-trick), Dunkirk picked up a 5-2 win when away to Radcliffe Olympic in a game which saw seven different scorers, Awsworth Villa eased to a 2-0 win at Borrowash Victoria thanks to goals from Joshua Broad and Robbie Manners, whilst Beeston and FC Cavaliers ended honours even, in a 2-2 draw.
Division One saw Bingham Town and Rushcliffe share eight goals as Jacob Boyes’ brace, along with goals from Benjamin Castell and James Maberley put the hosts into second on goal-difference, the lowly visitors replying through Callum Baker’s hat-trick, and one for substitute Joel Goodacre.
AC United won 2-0 at home to Keyworth United Reserves courtesy of goals from Kyren Johnson-Ward and Courtney Brown, Bilborough TRD won 6-1 at Beeston Old Boys Association, and Meden Vale Colts edged Clifton All Whites Reserves 2-1 at home.
Meanwhile, in Division Three, there was victories on the road for Langwith Whitestar and Nottingham Greens, the former winning 3-1 at East Leake Robins, the latter 7-2 at Phoenix Athletic, whilst the game between Rushcliffe Reserves and Trent Vineyard finished even, in a 2-2 draw.
Whitestar are second, on goal-difference, after goals from Owen Biddle, Thomas King, and Trent Shaw, saw them register their fifth win in seven thus far, and sit a point behind Beeston Reserves having played a game more.
Nottingham Greens meanwhile stunned their high-flying hosts, Phoenix Athletic; sitting bottom of the table the Greens registered their first league win of the season, and in some style, Ryan Fretwell with a hat-trick in a 7-2 win; further goals were added via Daniel Ibinimion, Frank Meades, Kewis Price, and substitute Ethan Fretwell.
Despite having lost every game prior to Saturday (seven league, one cup), the Greens have scored in every game played, registering thirteen times before Saturday’s win took the tally to twenty (in nine outings) – with nine different scorers, Ethan Fretwell leads the way with four goals.
