Panthers Beaten In Elite League Opener
The Nottingham Panthers kicked off their league campaign Wednesday night in Scotland, however it wasn’t to be as they were defeated 2-1 by the Glasgow Clan.
It had all the signs of a lively game when Tyson McLellan got the Clan on the board just three minutes into the game, however this wasn’t to be with two more goals to come and only two penalties being called all game.
However one of the big talking points pre-game got himself an assist on the first goal in the form of Cade Neilson, this game being a family affair with his brother Logan, icing for the Panthers and Dad, Corey, being Glasgow’s Head Coach.
The second period, like most of the game, was dominated by constant interruptions in both goals coming off their lines and pegs, with this slowing the flow of the game to the frustrations of the home fans.
The purple army would be given something to cheer about however in the 29th minute as they would double their lead Rylan Schwartz scored his first goal of Glasgow’s league campaign.
The Panthers were resilient however, with their best form coming in the third period, most notably with Didrik Henbrant who led the team in shots on goal who would be rewarded with 10 minutes left to play as he brought it back to a one goal game.
Despite the effort in the last 10 minutes, the Panthers would leave Scotland empty handed, with a lot to focus on heading into the first home league game this weekend, against another Scottish side in the Fife Flyers.
Before Nottingham face Fife they must have their sights set firmly on this Saturday as they are on the road once more for the away fixture in the Challenge Cup group against the Sheffield Steelers, their home meeting being a close 4-3 loss.
Nottingham currently sit top of their Challenge Cup with just four games left for them to play, a win against the Steelers would give them one hand on at least a play-in spot against the 2nd seed in Group B.
