Brits Smash Centre Stage On Day Four

It was a great day for the Brits at the Rothesay Nottingham Open on Thursday as all four matches on centre court went the way of home favour, underneath hot sunny skies at Highfields, Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Jodie Burrage and Andy Murray all won by two straight sets to make the Quarter Finals of the competition.

Headliner Murray, playing in the men’s Challenger event as a top seed wildcard, had beaten Belgium qualifier Joris De Loore in the first round and saw off Frenchman Hugo Grenier in an entertaining match late afternoon, in front of a packed vocal crowd, eventually winning 6-3, 7-5 to set up a last eight match against Swiss number eight seed Dominic Stricker who had earlier saw off another Brit in Ryan Paniston.

In the women’s singles the day started with Leicester born Katie Boulter the new British number one, against Ukrainian Daria Snigur in an entertaining battle which ended 7-5, 6-3, the first set lasting an hour and fifteen minutes alone.

In contrast, Harriet Dart who Boulter will play against in her last eight match, made a flying start against her opponent Anhelina Kalinina the current world number 25, Dart winning the first set 6-0 in just 22 minutes before seeing a much tighter second set through 7-5.

Finally a win for Jodie Burrage against Polish world number 21 Magda Linette, 7-5, 6-3, setting up a tie against another Pole in Magdelina Frech who saw off Lin Zhu in round two.

Friday’s order of play will see Burrage and Frech kick off proceedings on centre court before Dart and Boulter do battle in an all England affair. Another entertaining looking match see’s Heather Watson take on Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland before Murray takes on Stricker to close the days play.
