Record Breakers Go 19 Straight
Record-breaking Worksop Town have certainly enjoyed their start to the current campaign, eventually – a 19-game winning streak, a club, and league record, wasn’t looking that way at the start of the campaign.
The Northern Premier League East Division leaders, boasting a fourteen-point advantage on second place Stockton Town, and a sizeable, twenty-one points, on joint-third pairing of Stocksbridge Park Steels and Hebburn Town, actually only picked up one point from their opening two matches.
Craig Parry’s side began the season with a 2-1 loss at Stockton Town, before battling to a 2-2 draw against Bridlington Town, before the winning sequence eventually kicked off, when at home to Dunston UTS, at the end of August.
A 3-1 win that day, thanks to goals from Paul Green, Jay Rollins and Terry Hawkridge, either side of the interval, set them on their way, Jake Jenson pulling a goal back for the visitors in the closing minutes.
However, the Tigers, suddenly found their roar, and it’s been a somewhat almighty one ever since; backed by a strong defence, Sebastian Malkowski and his back-line have kept eleven clean-sheets during that sequence, and eighteen in all competitions thus far – they all, very much, deserve credit.
At the end of the sequence (to date), a 2-0 home win over Grantham Town to ring in the new year, Rollins again netting, alongside one of many strikes this season from Liam Hughes, afforded the NPL’s high-fliers another, three point haul.
Afterwards, Tigers boss, Craig Parry, told the clubs’ YouTube channel, about the winning run, saying that: “I’m please, and I’m proud, but our aim is to obviously go up, but I’m pleased for these guys.
“The backroom team, the committee, the chairman, everyone that’s involved.
“We win together, we lose together, and we break records together.
“That’s what we’ve done, so, collectively, as a club, we’re all proud and everyone deserves a pat on the back.”
Going on to discuss the momentum in which the club gained, one which flowed over into the cup competitions as well, that winning mentality seemingly knows no bounds and the side, who reside at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium, have dismissed all-comers.
Beginning with the 3-1 win at home to Dunston UTS, the Tigers would then defeat that of Lincoln United (h, 6-0), Sheffield (h, 1-0), Long Eaton (a, 1-0), Consett (h, 3-1), Grimsby Borough (h, 5-0, Liam Hughes and Liam Hardy with two apiece), Shildon (a, 4-1, Hughes 2), Brighouse Town (h, 4-0, Hughes 2), Cleethorpes Town (a, 2-0), Hebburn Town (a, 6-1, Hardy hat-trick), Stocksbridge Park Steels (h, 4-1, Jack Broadhead 2), North Shields (h, 4-0, Hughes 2), Tadcaster Albion (a, 4-0, Hughes 2), Ossett Albion (a, 2-1), Grantham Town (a, 1-0), Pontefract Collieries (a, 3-2, Vaughan Redford 2), Stockton Town (h, 1-0), Carlton Town (a, 3-0, Hughes 2), and finally, in early January, Grantham Town (h, 2-0).
That Dunston game, it was that which was the catalyst for Parry, and all that has happened since, he adding: “The performance we put in there really kick-started it.
“I must say, looking back at November, that’s where the credit’s got to be done as there’s some difficult games in there, some long away trips, on Tuesday nights.
“But, it’s an unbelievable achievement and, like I’ve said, collectively, everyone at the club, not just the players, everyone, collectively, deserves a big pat on the back.
“Tuesday nights in November though, they’re the wins that come to mind at the minute (highlights), but I think, every one’s got its worth, and every wins got its value, and I’m really pleased we’ve been able to manage it.”

The win over Grantham now safely locked away, the rest of January for Parry’s roaring Tigers sees them travel to Sheffield (7 January), before back-to-back home games Bridlington Town and Long Eaton United, on 14 and 21 January respectively, ahead of finishing the month, on the road, at Pontefract Collieries (28 January) – how they, and the league, will be looking then, is anyone’s guess.
As for the battling Tigers, they’ve certainly put themselves through the ringer, but the rewards should well be just, come the seasons’ end.
“There’s broken bodies in there, tired bodies, mentally tired, and we’ve just had to manage it week-by-week,” added the Tigers boss.
“They’ve put their bodies on the line, not just their bodies but their mental state as well.
“Being able to pick themselves up every single week, and come here, and work together, as a team, as a unit, to fight, and to get three points for this club.”
Those three points, after three points, after three points, have met with a sizable lead at the top of the division, and with it, the creation of two, new records, the NPL confirming that, not only is it a new Tigers record, but also well surpasses that of Guiseley’s fifteen, back in 1994, nearly three decades ago.
