Magpies Shoot Down Gulls
It was another emphatic performance for Notts County as they comprehensively beat visitors Torquay United at Meadow Lane today, a thumping 4-0 win for Luke Williams well drilled side who now have an incredible 44 league goals from just sixteen games played.
It was the Magpies seventh straight league win but Wrexham’s persistence below them ensure the gap between the top two is still just three points, the Welsh side matching Notts’ efforts today with a 4-0 win themselves, at home to Altrincham.
Against Torquay, Notts were made to wait 27 minutes before opening the scoring, a well worked free kick eventually finding Rawlinson on the edge of the box to strike home.
Five minutes later it was two, Aaron Nemane tripped inside the area, Ruben Rodrigues making the away side pay the penalty.
Ahead of the break, Chicksen, firing on all cylinders of late, struck an effort against the crossbar, but Notts in full control at the midway point.
That control continued in the second period, the lead almost furthered when substitute Sam Austin rattled the bar, with two minutes to go however, Quevin Castro struck a fierce effort low and hard and into the corner to make it three.
There was even time for a fourth, Geraldo Bajrami next to try his luck, from range, via a deflection to seal a solid victory for the home side to enjoy.
Big strides being made by Luke Williams team, three thumping wins in a row now since that shock defeat against Coalville, focus well and truly on the target of winning promotion, next up is Bromley on Tuesday night before an away match at Southend Saturday next.
