Wood Postpones Title Fight

Nottingham boxer Leigh Wood has regrettably had to postpone his WBA title fight against Mauricio Lara after suffering a torn bicep in training.

The fight was supposed to take place on Saturday 24th September in front of a packed crowd at the Motorpoint Arena but will now be rescheduled for a later date. The card will still continue on the night with a fight between Kid Galahad and Maxi Hughes promoted to the main event of the evening.

Wood provided a statement which read “Heartbreaking to confirm that I’ve had to postpone my fight against Mauricio Lara with a torn bicep. My sympathy is with Lara wo I am sure has also been working extremely hard for this fihgt. The event will still go ahead on the 24th and I would like to wish all the best to the other fighters on the card. It would be great if you could still all attend and offer your support, or if you prefer a refund this must be requested by Monday latest via place of purchase. Sorry to all, I will be back very soon with a NEW DATE!”

Defending champion Wood has a 28-2 record  whilst Mexican born Lara has 24 wins in 27 fights with 2 defeats and a draw.

Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn who promotes Leigh Wood, stated “We’re gutted to lose such an explosive headliner so close to fight week but unfortunately Leigh suffered a torn bicep during sparring and there’s no way he can get in the ring against such a dangerous opponent with only one arm.”

Scottish world champion Hannah Rankin will fight Terri Harper to defend her WBA super welterweight title whilst Birmingham born Heavyweight Soloman Dacres fights Dominic Akinlade and Team GB Olympian Cheavon Clarke faces his third pro opponent in the cruiserweight division.
