Notts To Face Grimsby In Playoffs
Maidenhead United 0-1 Notts County (National League) 15.05.22
Notts County will host Grimsby Town in the first elimination stage of the National League playoffs after the Magpies from Nottingham ended their regular season with a single goal win over the Magpies of Maidenhead on Sunday afternoon.
As the Notts fans who travelled south, packed in with fancy dress and beachballs for the clubs final league game of the campaign, an early chance for Calum Roberts went begging for the away side as he dragged a shot wide after being played through by Ruben Rodrigues in the opening ten minutes.
Kyle Wootton then headed over before Adams struck narrowly wide from long range for the hosts, Roberts then flicked on a Matt Palmer cross which was superbly saved by United’s goalkeeper Gyollai. The best moments of the first half.
The second half started with Maidenhead looking to take the lead, McCoulsky forcing Slocombe to save on 50 minutes after running through onto a ball over the top of the County defence. Adams then fired over from a partially cleared corner following Palmer blocking Donnellan’s attempt, before a penalty for Notts, on 70 minutes Roberts brought down inside the area, the winger then picking himself up, to calmly place straight down the middle and put his team in the lead.
Late on, Blissett shot wide after pressure from the home side resulted in them creating some half chances in search of a leveller, but Notts stood form to end the season with a win, Ian Burchnall’s side finishing the campaign on 82 points from 44 games, in fifth place in the table.
Next up is Grimsby who come to Meadow Lane on Monday 23rd May, the winners will play Wrexham the following Saturday, who finished the season in second place, the winners of that, will then play in the London Stadium final for a place in the Football League on Saturday 5th June.
