Notts Shaping Up Ahead Of Season
Nottinghamshire 130/1 & 192/5 v Warwickshire 197/4 dec & 115/3 (Friendly) 26.03.22-27.03.22
*two day match drawn
The sun shone on Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire over the weekend as both sides shown glimpses of what’s on offer this coming season ahead with competent displays in a friendly match at Trent Bridge that was split into two maximum 60 over a side games on both Saturday and Sunday.
Day One and Warwickshire would head out first with the wood in hand to register a score retiring total on 197/4 before Notts in response fell 67 short but for three less wickets as Haseeb Hameed ended his innings three below a half century with 47 from 52 balls, whilst Ben Duckett closed not out on 42 with Ben Slater finishing unbeaten on 37.
The following day it was Nottinghamshire who set out to bat first recording 192 from their 60 overs as Ben Duckett this time retired out for 28, Joe Clarke hit 25 and Lyndon James 42 before returning skipper, Steven Mullaney, who missed the tie against Loughborough University midweek, grabbed a half century and 55 not out off 104 balls.
There was a wicket for former Notts and England fast bowling favourite Ryan Sidebottom who took Tom Moores for 18 with Liam Patterson-White registering 14 before his innings was ended off the bowling of Yates, Evison six not out keeping Mullaney company at the end.
In response, Warwickshire managed 115 off 28 overs with Burgess retiring out for sixty after Benjamin had earlier been caught by Slater off the bowling of Evison.
Yates & Miles brining home the rear until little late in the afternoon when Calvin Harrison took the wicket of the latter, the two sides agreed to call it a day.
Another tough test for Notts who now face a trip down the A52 to the Incora County Ground and the old rivals Derbyshire for a two day game on Tuesday and Wednesday, hopefully the weather allows plenty of play with a little bit of the wet stuff said to be in the air. After Derbyshire is done they’ll be a week to prepare for a long road trip to Sussex and the first game of the County Championship Division Two campaign which starts on Thursday 7th April.
