Rampant Reds See Off Reading
Nottingham Forest 4-0 Reading (EFL Championship) 12.03.22
It was a four-star performance from Nottingham Forest in their Championship match with Reading this afternoon but it didn’t come without cost as injuries to Max Lowe and Steve Cook marred an otherwise perfect day at the office for Steve Cooper’s side.
The sun blessed City Ground still vibrant from Monday’s cup win against Huddersfield and the pending visit of Liverpool which lies ahead, the Reds players themselves however had business to attend to in the league and what a start they made as they went to work on relegation fodder Reading in the opening few seconds.
Djed Spence crossed into to Keinan Davis who Collymore-esq turned and swivelled inside the box to put the Reds one up with just seventeen seconds on the clock.
That lead allowed Reading to come back into the game with a relatively flat first half from Forest, Horvath was forced into a couple of saves before a huge blow as the Reds lost Max Lowe to injury.
Forest however, as they did in the first 45, came out in the second half strong and they extended their lead on the hour through Keinan Davis, who picked up the ball deep in the opposition half where he turned and ran at the visitors defence before smashing home off the post, did somebody say Collymore-esq? Davis is a raw-talented player with a touch of finesse, proving that with more game time the better he gets, with more goals to his game he could really become the complete package.
The Aston Villa loanee came off to a standing ovation for his two goals before Ryan Yates got in on the act with a long range strike from 25 yards. Goal scoring is becoming a habit for the Reds academy graduate who’s now netted three in his last three matches. Another player adding goals to his game which has started to take him towards unprecedented levels of previous achievements.
There was still time for two substitutes to combine as Xande Silva played in Sam Surridge who netted his second goal of the week to round things off nicely, a late injury to Steve Cook did put a dampener on the result but hopefully neither injury to him, nor Max Lowe will be too serious to see them miss too many important games ahead.
Forest enthralling with Keinan Davis superb, a lot of positives to take into the Reds next match against fellow playoff contenders Queens Park Rangers at the City Ground on Wednesday.
