Bees Take First Season Point
Beeston Men’s First Team picked up their first point of the season in the England Hockey League Premier Division at the weekend drawing 3-3 with Brooklands Manchester University in an entertaining game in the North West.
Brooklands led three times during the game with Peter Flanagan, Craig Getty and Andrew Jackson all getting their name on the scoresheet. However, Beeston found a way back each time, with Kai Achinger scoring twice and Gareth Griffiths getting the other to provide a valuable first point of the season which lifts the Bees second bottom in the table ahead of University of Exeter who have played one less match than Beeston’s four played.
In the Vitality Women’s Premier Division Beeston’s first team lost 2-1 at home to East Grinstead. Sophie Robinson scoring in the second half for the Bees to pull a goal back but it was too little too late against the early title challengers, East Grinstead now in second behind Hampstead & Westminster on maximum points from four whilst the Bees lie eighth in the table after three games played with one victory and two defeats.
This weekend Beeston Women take on Wimbledon in South East London whilst the men host Hampstead & Westminster on Sunday at the Nottingham Hockey Centre.
