NSL Roundup: Dunkirk Edge Thriller
Under the Friday night lights at the Ron Steel Sports Ground, Lenton Lane, Joel Howes led the hosts, AFC Dunkirk to victory in a seven-goal thriller against visitors Southwell City.
The Euro Soccer Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division encounter would see the victors, coupled with results the following day, open a three point advantage atop of the division, whilst the visitors, they were seen to suffer their second defeat in four.
In what was the proverbial game of two halves, the hosts raced into a three-goal, half-time lead before a complete role reversal in the second period saw the visitors come within a whisker of getting something from the game.
Ashley Kelly would score twice, with one a piece from Jack Jepson, and substitute Daniel Fuller, as that three-goal lead was built up inside the opening twenty-five minutes; after the restart however, an own-goal got the visitors back into the game.
Calum Law would reduce the deficit to just one when flicking home with under fifteen to go, but the nail was hammered home with eight minutes left when the hosts registered a fourth before substitute Fraser Bricknell kept City within touching distance with five on the clock.
It was however, too little too late, the hosts, AFC Dunkirk, running out 4-3 victors.
The following day both Sandiacre Town and Stapleford Town kept within touching distance of the early pacesetters, both registering home wins against Attenborough, and Keyworth United, respectively.
A brace from Alex Beno gave Sandiacre all three points in their game, registering at the end of each half, whilst goals from Troy Carty, Owen Morris and Jack Upton saw Stapleford edge a five-goal game that saw the visitors net through Thomas Siswick and Isaac Wealthall.
In the clash of lowly duo, FC Sez and FC Cavaliers, the latter edged the game, 1-0, the goal coming from Blessing Adeleye; Ilkeston FCB remain unbeaten in two after they won 5-3 at home to Cotgrave, whilst there remaining three, Premier Division matches, finished in draws.
Aslockton & Orston vs. Wollaton, and Bilborough Town vs. Ravenshead both ended 2-2, whilst at Bingham Town, there match with Woodthorpe Park Rangers, bore witness to some ten goals, in a high-scoring draw, that finishing 5-5.
Further down the Euro Soccer NSL, in the First Division, Radcliffe Olympic and Beeston currently lead the way, the latter of the two moving joint top when they won 4-0 at their Trent Vale Road Sports Ground home, against visiting Kirton Brickworks.
Jack Wilkinson afforded them an interval lead, with a goal on the stroke of half-time, whilst second half efforts flowed through Nathan Hodgson, Paul Ireson, and Tom Coupe.
Hucknall Town Reserves won 5-2 away to Pythian, Alexander Goodall with hat-trick, whilst there was a 4-1 win for Ruddington Village, Meden Vale Colts visiting Elms Park only to be felled by home substitute Kaiden Burke-Campbell’s brace.
Standout results over Division Tow North, and South, saw Bestwood Colliery win 8-2 at Blidworth Welfare Red, Shirebrook Soldiers see off visitors Rushcliffe 6-2, and 5-1 wins for both Nottingham Community (away to Education FC) and Ravenshead Reds (home to Phoenix Inham) in the North, and Keyworth United Reserves defeat visitors Aslockton & Orston Reserves 8-1, Benjamin Widdowson claiming a four-goal haul.
There was even time for two, 4-4 draws, down in the Foundation Division, as South Notts drew with Wollaton Reserves, and AFC Rufford drew with Manor, the latter of which saw Thomas Crisp (Rufford) and Ashley Keay (Manor) both score twice apiece.
