Harrogate Town 3-1 Mansfield Town (EFL Trophy Group 8) 31.08.21

It was a third straight defeat for Mansfield Town who were beaten in the EFL Trophy by Harrogate last night. The Yorkshiremen comfortable winners on the night thanks to a Danilo Orsi-Dadomo hat-trick.

The Stags actually started well and hit a post through Jordan Bowery ten minutes in, the strikers header coming off the woodwork after a brilliant cross by Ryan Burke.

Pattison then went close for the hosts with an ambitious long range looped effort just over the bar before Power cut in and hit the post to level up on woodwork banging, shortly before the half hour.

George Thomson then made Forest loanee George Shelvey in the Mansfield goal work to save well before the home side finally struck on the stroke of half time, Pattison’s shot rebounding off the keeper to Orsi who turned and placed home for his first of the night.

Mansfield had chance to level up proceedings just seven minutes into the second half when Pattison was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, Jordan Bowery stepping up to fire his penalty against the crossbar, the Stags were made to pay within seconds as from the rebound Harrogate broke at electric pace and Power raced down the field to find Orsi who made it two.

Mansfield did get a response, George Lapslie’s shot on 66 was too hot for the goalkeeper to handle, but Orsi then made it 3-1 just four minutes later, tapping home from a yard to relieve the two goal cushion.

After the match, Mansfield announced the signings of Richard Nartey from Burnley on loan iuntil the end of the season and defender Will Forrester from Stoke City, also on loan until January.

Next up for Mansfield is Harrogate again, on Saturday, this time at Field Mill in the league, where the Stags will be hoping to put things right.
