Notts Sign Exciting Wing Back

Notts County have signed the athletic Joel Taylor from National League neighbours Chesterfield with the left wing back joining for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal at Meadow Lane.

25 year old Taylor only joined the Spirites midway through last season after some excellent displays at Chester in the National League North, he played 18 games in all competitions for Chesterfield and comes with Premier League pedigree after starting out his career at Stoke City.

On signing Taylor, Head Coach Ian Burchnall said “We needed a wing back who could offer a threat one-against-one. Joel’s pace in the wide areas and his ability to attack in those moments is really important.

“He’s been playing wing back at Chesterfield and, based on the games we’ve seen, he was most effective when they were attacking. With us being a team that wants to do that, we feel he’ll suit us well.

“With Joel we have to look at the whole package, including his age and potential. He’s got the capacity to develop his game further and we feel we can help him do that in this environment.

“We know Adam Chicksen can play in the same position, which gives us two highly competent players in that area.”

More positive news for Notts is that 24-year-old defender Dion Kelly-Evans has agreed to extend his contract until the end of the season, the full back played a huge part in Burchnall’s team last season with his boss stating “Everyone knows what Dion’s about. He has no off switch – be it in training or in games, he brings the same level of intensity.

“Not only that but he’s a great lad who is keen to better himself and, with there being so much more time on the training ground this season, I’m sure we can continue to bring him on leaps and bounds.”
