Konta Through To Semi-Finals

Great Britain number one and world number twenty, Johanna Konta is through to the semi-finals of the WTA Viking Nottingham Open singles after beating Belgium Alison Van Uytvanck in the quarter finals today by two sets to zero.

Number one seed and twice finalist Konta who has beaten Pattinama Kerkhove and Kateryna Kozlova in the previous rounds, saw off her opponent on the main court at the Nottingham Tennis Centre this afternoon winning 6-3, 7-6 in just over one and a half hours.

Konta will play world no87 Nina Stojanovic of Serbia in the semi-finals with the winner taking on either the Chinese star Shuai Zhang or Lauren Davis of USA, Davis going through earlier after the unfortunate Leicester born Katie Boulter withdrew with injury in their last eight tie, despite the Brit being a set up.

In the men’s competition Brit Dan Evans who won the last tournament in the city in 2019 is out. The top seed for the ATP Challenger event was beaten in his quarter final match by American Denis Kudla.

In a tough battle the Kiev born player who represents the United States, won the first set 6-4 before losing out to the Birmingham born 31-year-old 6-1 in the second set, however another tight set was won by Kudla 6-4 to see him go through to face Kamil Majchrzak of Poland in the last four.

The other semi-final will feature the Romanian Marius Kopil who beat Kevin Anderson today. He’ll play number two seed and ATP 74 rank American Frances Tiafoe who saw off Evgeny Donskoy also today.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will feature both men and women’s semi-finals before the curtain drawing finals day on Sunday, also featuring tomorrow will be the WTA doubles event last four match between Ankita Raina & Julia Wachaczyk against Caroline Dolehide & Storm Sanders, with the winners facing Kichenok and Ninomiya in the final after the pair received a walkover in their semi match.
