Parry In No Hurry With His Tigers
Worksop Town manager, Craig Parry, and his backroom staff, are in no hurry in what has become an unorthodox ending to the 2020-21 campaign.
As clubs up and down the country embark on mini-leagues, round-robin tournaments, and friendly matches, it is the latter option which Parry chose to take for the Sandy Lane side.
Beginning their own post-season later than everyone else, the Tigers boss has packed in a number of friendly matches in which he’s using to “help boost morale, develop the players, and to see where they are, fitness-wise.”
Having played two matches already, the Tigers collecting wins over Goole (2-0) and Parkgate (4-1), Parry will see his side line up again on Friday night, against Rainworth Miners Welfare, before three further friendlies later this month, all four of those being a Friday night.
“We’ve had four months or so without any football at all,” began Craig.
“We just wanted to get the lads back together again and have some fun more than anything so, us entering any competitions, it wasn’t really an option.
“It was just a case of playing football again, boost morale, develop the players, and to see where they are, fitness-wise.”
In their first outing a goal in each half would see them to victory against Goole, before a hat-trick from Ben Tomlinson helped the Pitching In Northern Premier League South East Division outfit to a comfortable win over Parkgate.
And, having seen a handful of changes behind the scenes, Parry, alongside that of Luke Jeffs and James Baxendale, are not letting it affect what happens on the field of play.
“It’s been good to be back, and the friendlies we’ve had so far have been positive,” continued Craig.
“We wanted to go out there, dictate things, and score goals, and that’s what we’ve done that.
“It’s all about progressing, on, and off the field, and that’s what we’re doing.
“We’re in a good place here so it was just a case of moving things around, and moving forward.”
After Rainworth, on Friday night, the Tigers see home matches, on each of the upcoming Friday nights, against Wakefield, Hallam, and Mickleover, with the hope that the latter two of those, on 21 and 28 May, sees the long-awaited, eagerly anticipated return, of fans to Sandy Lane.
An expected month off will follow before Parry, Jeffs et al announce, and move into their pre-schedule ahead of the 2021-21 campaign.
“We captured the games that needed to and, although it was never going to be perfect, we’ll do what we can moving forward,” added Craig.
“After all, there’s no pressure on us whatsoever (post-season) so, we’ll continue to make progression off the field, then look to go for promotion next season and get this club as high as we can.”
