Big Sam Wins It For Notts
Weymouth 0-1 Notts County (National League) 30.01.21
Another win and another clean sheet for Notts County at the weekend as ‘Big Sam’ scored the all-important winner on the Dorset coast.
County, unbeaten since 28th December have conceded just three goals since late November and are starting to find their feet after a turbulent start to the campaign with still no assurances on whether the season will indeed be fulfilled come May.
Manager Neal Ardley has said “all we can do is keep playing” but it is the way Notts are doing things right now which is impressive, defending well, keeping the ball and being clinical when it matters, tough games with opponents raising their match to match the Magpies is assured, but coming through them is certainly the makings of a good side, and Notts are proving to be just that.
A dominant first half left the team frustrated that they didn’t go in to the break with a lead but an early Elisha Sam strike, just 51 minutes in, was enough to be the difference, Sam racing down the wing to chip over the goalkeeper from a tight angle, whether he meant it or not was another question, the goal thereafter well defended and the points taken back north as County now on 30 points from 17 games are just three points from second placed Hartlepool with two games in hand, Torquay at the top have thirteen more, having played three more than Neal Ardley’s men.
Next up Notts are straight back in action as they take on Bromley at the Lane tomorrow night, a win against the tenth placed team in the division could take County in to the top two.
