Stags Extend McLaughlin’s Stay
Former Forest and Notts County winger Stephen McLaughlin originally signed for Mansfield Town on a short-term deal in September but his performances of late have been rewarded by his Manager Nigel Clough who has given the Irishman an extension to stay at the One Call Stadium until the end of the season.
McLaughlin has proven versatile and has offered the Stags some added quality and experience this season and under both Graham Coughlan who signed him, and Clough, has played a large part in Mansfield’s season so far and that is set to continue into 2021.
Having suffered injury that has seen him miss the last two matches, McLaughlin should be back for the trip to Grimsby Town on Saturday with his Manager stating “We’re delighted to have him until the end of the season.” Saying “He should be back in the squad on Saturday.”
Clough also stated that another of his ‘experienced’ ex-reds is getting back to full fitness saying “James Perch is coming along really nicely, but realistically we’re probably looking at the Southend game” as the former Newcastle United defender is likely again to miss out this weekend.
One bit of loan news is that youngster Joshua Scott returns from a short stint at National League North side Kettering. The Hartlepool born youngster scored two goals for the Poppies this season.
Finally Mansfield Town U18’s are in action tomorrow as they take on Bugbrooke St Michaels in the first round of the FA Youth Cup. Kick Off at the Sett Stadium in Northamptonshire is 7:45pm.
