Newark March On
Newark Football Club continued their cracking run of form in the Midland League last night as they beat Coventry United in a match played behind closed doors.
The game held at Coventry Rugby FC’s Butts Park Arena was closed to spectators for safety reasons but streamed online as the tangerine army instead got to watch their team play live on YouTube.
And the boys didn’t disappoint their fans. After going a goal behind against a side that had previously won four of their five league matches Newark rallied with a second half comeback to take all three points and move to fourth in the table five points behind leaders Sporting Khalsa but with two games in hand.
Danny Meadows levelled ten minutes after half time before substitute Romello Nangle netted an 83rd minute goal to all but give Newark the win. Meadows capping off a fine night’s work in injury time to ensure the visitors would win 3-1.
It wasn’t such a good night for our counties other representative in the Midland Football League on Tuesday night as Selston were beaten by Coventry Sphinx 7-0.
The Sels’ are currently bottom of the table with nine defeats from nine games having already conceded 48 goals. Next up for the villagers is a winnable home match against Highgate United on Saturday whilst Newark host Coventry Sphinx at Hawton Lane.
