Second Win Of Season For Bees
Beeston Hockey Club mens first XI beat Brooklands University of Manchester on Sunday to move fourth in the England Hockey League Premier Division.
David Flanagan gave the visitors to Nottingham Hockey Centre a 13th minute lead which the away side held midway into the second half but Adam Dixon converted a penalty corner on 53 minutes before five minutes later the same player placed home from the penalty spot to give the home side advantage and to cap off a fantastic nine minute spell Alex Blumfield finished off following a fantastic run to give the Bees all the points and a second win of the season.
There were two yellow cards for Beeston players in a feisty game as Gareth Griffiths and Henry Croft were sin binned in the final minute with Manager Graham Griffiths saying after “We struggled for the first fifty minutes and were shocking but we had a period in the second half, nine minutes, three goals that turned the game completely on its head.”
He said “We looked flat, but it’s strange times though, we’re doing things that we’ve not done before, we’re in difficult circumstances, we’ve got players pulling out on the morning of the match but we’ve just got to get on with it, and we’re getting on with it”
Beeston next face East Grinstead in Sussex on Saturday and whilst the womens first team weren’t in action over the weekend they’ll be back at the Nottingham Hockey Centre on Saturday to face Wimbledon with a 1pm start in the league.
