Basford Awarded Club Of The Month

Basford United have been awarded the BetVictor Northern Premier Division Club of the Month for January becoming the first team to win the honour.

Steve Chettle’s side had a magnificent opening 30 days to 2020 with five league wins and a draw but have so far stuttered in February losing at Gainsborough Trinity before being held at home by FC United of Manchester last weekend.

Chettle however was optimistic about Basford’s season stating “There’s still a lot of football to be played.” He said “I’m sure there’s going to be some twists and turns towards the end of the season. We’re tucked very nicely behind South Shields, but there’s some good teams underneath us.”

After Tuesday’s match at Mickleover Sports was postponed United next travel to Nantwich Town this weekend as they take on ‘the Dabbers’ currently fifth in the table three places and five points behind the Nottingham based side.

In the South East Division and still hunting for promotion Carlton Town, sixth a place outside the playoff places travel to Newcastle Town who are 17th. Worksop Town in the same division currently 15th are away at Belper Town.

In the Midland Football League second placed Newark Flowserve will be looking to close the gap on leaders Coventry United as they take on Boldmere St Michaels in a match they need to win with the gap at the top now five points.

Another team needing to win are Selston, bottom of the table they take on Gresley just two places and four points above them. The West Notts outfit have shown recent improvements in form under new Manager Carl Moore losing by the odd goal against Tividale and Newark but beating Highgate and drawing with Coventry Sphinx.

Another side struggling at the bottom of their division is AFC Mansfield who are 18th in the Northern Counties East League but having drew last time out against Liversedge in the league and having beaten Rossington Main in the cup midweek, they’ll be confident of beating bottom of the table Athersley Recreation at the Forest Town Arena on Saturday as they look to go clear of the drop zone. In mid-week hat trick hero Ross Duggan they have a striker in fine form having scored six goals in his last four games.

In the NCEL Division One 16th placed Ollerton Town take on championship challengers Selby whilst sixth placed Retford host Skegness Town who are also going strong in third.

Finally weather permitting they’ll be a full fixture of East Midlands Counties League games this Saturday but please be warned, Storm Dennis could dampen more misery on the weekends football with postponements likely so stay tuned via Nottingham Sport and through your clubs twitter accounts before you set off to attend any games.
