Mansfield Beaten By Oldham

Oldham Athletic 3-1 Mansfield Town (EFL League Two) 28.01.20

After the highs of Saturday’s win over Bradford the life and times of being a Mansfield Town Football Club fan this season might have half expected the lows that would follow as the Stags were well beaten at Boundary Park last night.

Jonny Smith opened the scoring for Dino Maamira’s Latics on 23 minutes and things would get worse for the Stags twenty minutes later when Tom Hamer netted to put the homeside two up at half time.

Stags boss Graham Coughlan made two early changes as he replaced Charsley & Maynard with Tomlinson & Cook six minutes into the second half but it was to no avail as any hopes of a Stags comeback were dashed when Gevaro Nepomuceno got his name on the scoresheet shortly before the hour.

There was at least something to celebrate as final substitute Otis Khan pulled back a 93rd minute consolation but the Stags crash back down to 21st with a loss that annoyed their manager.

“We didn’t turn up. We were second-best all night and the scoreline suggests that. I think it’s fair to say that’s the worst performance we’ve had since I’ve been here.”

“Performances have been good and off the back of Saturday I was hoping for more. You could physically see we were low on energy – we had no legs and couldn’t press.”

Mansfield will be hoping to lift the morale at the weekend with a win over Carlisle at the One Call Stadium as they host the Cumbrians currently in 19th just two points above the Stags.
