Longridge Too Hot For Flowserve
Newark Flowserve’s fabulous journey in the Buildbase FA Vase fell short in the last 32 of the competition as they lost 5-1 at Longridge Town despite a gallant performance by the Highwaymen in reaching the fourth round for the first time in the clubs history.
The home side who play their football in the North West Counties took an early two goal lead before Ben Hutchinson halved the defecit on 25 minutes but the Lancashire outfit made it three before the break and added two more in a second half to complete what was in the end a convincing rout.
Despite the result the biggest credit on the day was for Newark’s fabulous away support who made the 272 mile round trip singing non stop for their team.
Concentration now for Flowserve is very much on gaining promotion from the Midland Football League but first off they play South Normanton Athletic on Tuesday night in the League Cup.
In the BetVictor Northern Premier League Basford United beat Bamber Bridge 3-0 to go third in the division whilst in the South East Division Carlton Town beat Wisbech 6-4 in a thrilling game at Stoke Lane.
Things didn’t go quite so well for Worksop Town who conceded two late goals to lose at home against Glossop North End.
In the Midland League bottom of the table Selston earned a much needed point against Haughmond drawing 2-2 at the Parish Hall & Recreation Ground.
In the Northern Counties East League there was no game for AFC Mansfield or Retford FC but Ollerton Town drew 0-0 with Hallam FC in Division One.
