Rainworth Beaten By Borrowash

Rainworth Miners Welfare 1-2 Borrowash Victoria (East Midlands Counties League) 04.01.20

Rainworth Miners Welfare fell to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Borrowash Victoria at the Tomlin Personnel Stadium. Second half goals from Matt Taylor and Nathan Bennet were enough to record a second consecutive victory for the side bottom of the East Midlands Counties League.

The defeat was Rainworth’s third in a row and their second at home all season, the Wren’s unbeaten run is very much behind them now. Lewis Weavers’ second half strike wasn’t enough to rescue any points from the match as the home side were wasteful in front of goal yet again.

Rainworth came close early on as winger Lewis Weaver found the crossbar in the 11th minute. A bouncing ball crossed into the Borrowash box was poorly dealt with as Weaver beat his man before chipping the ball onto the bar and out for a goal kick.

The best chance of the half fell to the home side in the 22nd minute. New signing Travis Comry whipped a tempting ball across the face of goal to find Dec Brewin at the far post. However, it wasn’t to be as Brewin completely missed the ball to let the visitors off the hook.

It took just three minutes after the restart for the game’s first goal. Borrowash winger Lewis Partridge produced a fine cross to find team mate Matt Taylor at the far post. Taylor showed good composer to calmly slot the ball home and put the visitors ahead.

Rainworth reacted well and found a quick equaliser in the 53rd minute. A misplaced pass in the midfield created a chance for Rainworth’s Lewis Weaver to break downfield. The winger showed great pace to shake free of the Borrowash defence before slotting home past Danny Rigley to level the scores.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to regain their lead as attacker Nathan Bennett found the back of the net after 67 minutes. A throw in front the right side by Connor Roberts proved too much to deal with for the Rainworth defence. The bouncing ball found its way Bennett in the centre of the box who drilled a powerful volley low past the keeper Josh Hollis.

Next for Rainworth they entertain a dangerous Dunkirk side at the Tomlin Personnel stadium. The wrens will hope to get back to winning ways and reignite their strong home form. Next up for Borrowash, they face a league cup quarter final fixture at home to West Bridgford.
