Carvalho Attracting Interest
Nottingham Forest midfielder Joao Carvalho is attracting interest from overseas with Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor hovering like hawks with a buy out fee of over £10m reported.
The 22 year old Portuguese playmaker has found things difficult under Sabri Lamouchi with six starts and seven substitute appearances so far with his work ethic and defensive attributes often questioned by Forest fans.
There is no doubt about Carvalho’s quality on the ball and after signing for a record €15m in the summer of 2018 his debut season was largely a success in an otherwise frustrating campaign of managerial changes & mediocracy eventually making 28 starts scoring 4 goals with 8 assists in his first Championship season.
Sidelined through injury in the summer Carvalho has struggled to force his way in to the side since under a new Coach and football philosophy that perhaps doesn’t utilise his best attributes whilst protecting the stuff he’s not quite as good at.
Forest are hard to beat this season under Lamouchi with pace and strength in the attacking departments, the agile Carvalho sometimes goes missing and offers little off the ball despite having the ability to unlock doors or score stunning goals like the one he got against QPR last month, questions on whether he fits the Lamouchi philosophy mean that should the right offer come along Forest may sell as they look to add more ‘ready-made’ firepower to their itinerary.
It looks like loanee striker Rafa Mir will go back to Wolves in January having failed as Lewis Grabban’s understudy so far with the club looking to bring in a high calibre striker as talks of Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle, Charlton Athletic’s Lyle Taylor or perhaps Standard Liege forward Renaud Emond being brought in to replace him.
The money for Carvalho could pave the way for a big money signing which is something Lamouchi and the Forest fans would like to see as they aim to push on their promotion challenge in the second part of the campaign.
