Forest Women KO Leeds
Nottingham Forest Women beat Leads United in the second round of the FA Womens National League Plate on Sunday to not only reach the second round of the competition but to also continue their run of eight successive wins as the club last tasted defeat now back in September.
In a 3-0 win Laura Dexter opened the scoring for the Reds before half time before goal-machine Precious Hamilton netted a second half brace in a ten minute spell either side of the break that tore the tie away from Leeds.
The Reds now go into next weekend’s last league fixture of the year at Fylde off the back of three successive cup wins in three different competitions (Notts Senior Cup, FA Cup & League Plate) knowing a win can reduce the gap at the top of the table to just four points with leaders Sunderland in cup action.
After the victory over Leeds many of the side came out after suggesting “the performance wasn’t great” which is testament to their mentality under Head Coach Andy Cook despite getting the victory.
Lyndsey Harkin stated it was “a cracking win after Leeds made it difficult for us at times. Pleased we got a clean sheet and into the next round” whilst full back Georgia Hewitt said “Not the best performance from us but we got the job done. Time to refocus again and hit training hard for our next game”.
In the East Midlands Womens Football League Plate it was a good day for Arnold Town Ladies who advance to round two after beating Kettering Town 4-2 whilst Worksop Town Women were convincingly knocked out 7-0 by Outibridge WM.
In the League Cup Second Round Mansfield Town Ladies beat Arnold Eagles Women 3-2 and Ollerton won easily against Sleaford 4-0 whilst Notts County gained a walkoever after their opponents Grimsby Borough failed to raise a team.
County like Forest are celebrating a fabulous run of late with the Magpies even more impressive statistically having now gone over 365 days without a league loss. With 16 wins 1 draw and 76 goals scored Notts have had a fabulous year and will be looking to start 2020 in the same veign when they next take on Lutterworth in January.
