Nottingham Crush London Scottish
Nottingham 41-5 London Scottish (RFU Championship Cup Pool Three) 08.12.19
Nottingham Rugby beat London Scottish 41-5 at the Bay to all but cement their place into the quarter finals of the Championship Cup.
The Green and Whites took the lead after just two minutes when McConnell went over before O’Leary converted and six minutes later Ben Brownlie scored his tenth try of the season to make it 12-0.
On 18 minutes Nottingham scored their third try when Scanlon went over with O’Leary making the extras for a 19-0 lead with three quarters of the game to play but it was the away side who scored next when Robert Stevenson went over before London Scottish missed the resulting conversion.
There was time for Nottingham to go over just before half time when Brownlie again went over but O’Leary’s attempt to convert fell short with the wind meaning the home team went in 24-5 up at the interval.
Five minutes into the second half O’Leary drilled home a penalty from the 22 to extend the home teams lead before Scanlon grabbed his second try of the game on 62 minutes before O’Leary did the business kicking over the extras.
There was still time for Oliver Chessum’s first try for the club with the successful conversion by O’Leary taking the score to 41-5 with thirteen to play. Jack Ingall was yellow carded for London Scottish in the final ten minutes as the Green and Whites went into game management mode securing a fabulous win with Tui Uru announced a deserved man of the match.
Nottingham next face Yorkshire Carnegie in what should be a formality/procession with enough points already to secure the side a place in the Quarter Finals of the Cup but with home advantage for the seeded teams a win could take the Green & Whites into the top four qualifiers which would be a huge benefit not just to the way Nottingham play their next game but for the club financially as well as who they oppose.
