Worksop Stun Leaders – Rugby Round Up

With Paviors not in action last weekend arguably the toughest test for our local sides came at the Memorial Ground where West Bridgford took on Midlands 1 East league leaders Syston who proved too strong for their hosts eventually winning 29-5 to take home their eleventh straight victory of the campaign.

It was not much better in the division below as bottom of the table Ashfield were beaten at home to Ilkeston 15-0 in what was the seventh straight defeat of the season for the Sutton based side.

In a weekend largely affected by the weather there was some good news as Midlands 3 East (North) outfit Mansfield edged Rolls Royce in a cracking game where the away side came through a 22-19 closely fought win.

An equally as impressive performance in an even tighter game saw bottom of the table Worksop draw with league leaders Boston 15-15 in Midlands 4 East (North) as the away side remarkably dropped their first points of the season and Worksop just as surprisingly picking up only their second point of the campaign. With Meden Vale seeing off Ollerton 25-10 in a local derby to go second the gap at the top is ten points with East Retford joint third with a game in hand on both teams above.

Finally in Midlands 4 East (North) Nottinghamians were well beaten 34-5 by Tupton as the Holme Pierrepont based side were leapfrogged in the table by their Derbyshire opponents in tenth.

This weekend Paviors return to Midlands Premier Division action as they visit Broadstreet Rugby Club in Coventry whilst West Bridgford will be looking to return to winning ways against Wellingborough who currently lie bottom of Midlands 1 East.

In Midlands 2 East weather permitting Newark visit Matlock whilst Nottingham Casuals make the short trip to Ilkeston, bottom of the table Ashfield who are hoping for their first win still have Loughborough away.

In Midlands 3 East Mellish will be hoping to continue their good start to the season as they take on Bakewell Mannerians whilst Mansfield will be looking for another win as they travel to Belper.

In fifth v third Southwell welcome Grimsby whilst Nottingham Moderns travel to Ashby.

Finally in Midlands 4 East (North) Meden Vale go to Gainsborough, Ollerton travel to Chesterfield Panthers, Nottinghamians visit Cleethorpes, East Retford host North Hykeham and Worksop welcome Tupton.
