Notts Add Lacey To Defence

Notts County have signed former Gillingham defender Alex Lacey as Manager Neal Ardley looks to strengthen his sides defence.

The 26 year old centre back joins the club after training with Bury in pre-season but due to the shakers expulsion from the football league he’s been left without a side ever since.

6ft2in Lacey has already been promoted from the National League when playing for Luton Town in the Conference before moving to Yeovil Town in 2015 where he played over 60 times in League Two.

After joining Gillingham in 2017 he struggled for regular League 1 starts over two seasons and was released in the summer and looked set to sign for Bury until problems at the club meant that the Gigg Lane outfit were unable to compete this season.

Notts Manager said of the acquisition “We looked at him in the summer and held some discussions but, with Bury in for him, League One was obviously appealing.”

“He’s a very good option. He’s bright, clever, mobile and athletic. He reads the game really well and isn’t bad on the ball either.”

Notts are in FA Cup action this Saturday as they travel to Ebbsfleet in the first round proper after the Magpies saw off Belper in the fourth qualifying round at Meadow Lane.
