As soon as the green light was switched back on to play golf this summer, courses across the county of Nottinghamshire have majestically gone about their business in setting up safe and attractive facilities for members and guests to enjoy.

With many more people taking to the course in recent weeks the socially distant joy of playing golf has become a popular form of exercise and as we slowly come out of the other end to start enjoying more relaxed rules on what we can and can’t do with our pastimes, we at Nottingham Sport recommend six of the best golf courses that you can enjoy without ever-needing to step over our counties boundaries.

The Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club

Recently renovated to a modern upkeep with a stunning clubhouse the Nottinghamshire is one of the highest regarded golf courses in the county and is the only 36 hole course in Nottingham with its Championship Course set around purpose built lakes and parkland most pleasing on the eye.

The Signature Course also fantastic, was extended from a 9 hole course in 1997 with the newest nine holes designed by former professional golfer and well known commentator Peter Alliss.

Hollinwell-Golf-Club Nottinghamshire’s Best Golf Courses

Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell)

Derby Road, Kirkby in Ashfield, NG17 7QR

Not to be confused with the Nottinghamshire (above). Notts Golf Club or Hollinwell to those locally, is one of the most stunningly set courses in the county, tree-lined spectacularly midst heathland in the heart of Robin Hood Country with heather and gorse bushes lining the undulated fairways.

Originally opened in 1901, the course was due to be used for Open Championships Qualifying this year and is one that needs caution and attention when setting up your shot.

Worksop-Golf-Club Nottinghamshire’s Best Golf Courses

Worksop Golf Club

Founded in 1914 Worksop is a classic looking British woodland course with open flat fairways with a testing distance particularly in the middle sector before a shorter finish which ends with par 3 eighteenth.

Made famous as the home of Lee Westwood who once stated “I always get a thrill each time I tee it up on the 1st, at some of our lesser-known courses as well as our championship venues, but my golfing heart lies at Worksop, a hidden gem if ever there was one”.

Often voted as one of the best pound-for-pound courses in the county this up and down open idyllic golf course boasts big wide fairways and forgiving terrain midst the trees of Sherwood Forest.

Rufford is a course that offers a bit of everything and is one that novices can enjoy whilst allowing experts to master, with deep bunkers and water hazards set to trip you up along the way it is not always perhaps what it seems.

Norwood-Golf Nottinghamshire’s Best Golf Courses

Norwood Park Golf Centre

Situated within historical parkland in picturesque surroundings this course is a favourite by many locally thanks largely to some of the best greens in the county.

The spacious and stunning venue boasts a nine hole par 3 and full 18 hole course that rolls effortlessly through the landscape carved magnificently by the designer Clyde B Johnston.

Wollaton-Park-Golf Nottinghamshire’s Best Golf Courses

Wollaton Park Golf Club

Lime Tree Avenue, Nottingham, NG8 1BT

Often overlooked when it comes to the counties best this fantastic looking course close to the city centre of Nottingham fronts the back drop of Wayne Manor and the famous Wollaton Hall with roaming deer bordering its parkland.

Described as “one of the gems of Midland Golf” it is a testing venue in all conditions set in over 500 acres of Wollaton Park and was designed by Tom Williamson in 1927.
