Nottinghamshire FC Looking For New Manager
It’s been a turbulent season for all our football clubs across the county as postponements have become a way of life during the 2019/20 campaign, initially down to the bad weather, we’ve seen many a game across the levels called off and more recently due to the termination of all football following the outbreak of Covid-19 we have a suspended season that leaves us all not knowing what will happen next.
Nottinghamshire FC are just one team like many that are concerned about their future and as the club prepare to celebrate their 125th anniversary this year they will do so in a precarious position most apprehensive about what will happen next for the team.
As one of the county’s oldest Amateur Football teams the club were hoping to play a past verses present game in May to celebrate their most iconic birthday but as Notts President Tim Salmon stated the team are also on ‘wobbly legs’.
Salmon said “We are financially stable with people who are happy to run the administration of the club but we desperately need a manager (or two) for next season”.
The clubs first team are currently eighth in the Midland & Notts Alliance First Division but their ambition is to return to the NSL with Salmon stating “We are looking for someone (or a group of people) who want to embrace the history of the club and to take that legacy and restore the club to its previous high standard”.
As for the season ending prematurely Salmon mentioned “Of course it is frustrating for all our players and supporters. We have a strong network of ex-players and Vice Presidents and they like to keep in touch with what is going on and want to know how the team is doing. It was our intention to celebrate our 125th year by having a Past v Present game at Arnold Town’s ground on Saturday 16th May. Given the current situation it is likely that this may be postponed, but we will definitely have this game at some point in 2020.”
The club has over 30 Vice-Presidents and the inclusion of the veterans team could see the past verses present match feature over 100 players old and new, with an Anniversary Booklet being published for the clubs birthday which includes statistics and records, a club history, archive, hall of fame and much more including the unique affiliation with Nottinghamshire Cricket Club which has seen a number of players in the past represent both teams.
