Lady Bees Move To Fifth
It was a good weekend in the Investec Womens Hockey League Premier Division for Beeston as a 1-0 win at Buckingham on Saturday moved the Nottingham based side to fifth in the table.
Courtney Schonell’s field goal after 26 minutes enough to separate the two sides with Beeston moving to within five points of fourth placed Bucks but more importantly up the table from eighth on 18 points and a point above four teams below them locked on 17.
In the Mens Hockey League the Bees had two games over the weekend following a postponement the week previous.
On Saturday Beeston edged Wimbledon in a thriller 3-2 with Sam Apoola tapping home from close range following a penalty corner in dramatic last minute fashion.
Adam Dixon had earlier put Beeston 1-0 up on 11 minutes before the Dons levelled temporarily through Ben Francis on 32. A minute later Beeston went 2-1 up with an Apoola field goal which gave the home team a deserved half time lead but on 47 Ben Arnold levelled and as time ran out that’s the way the game looked to be until a penalty corner on 70 minutes was dispatched.
Any hope of a double winning weekend however was cut short yesterday when Old Georgians beat the Bees 2-1 in Surrey.
The home team took an early lead through James Tindall before Richard Lawrence levelled through a penalty corner. The winner coming in the 43rd minute through Ward with Beeston staying in sixth place in the National Premier Division table.
