Reds Nearing Champions League Target
Ipswich Town 2-4 Nottingham Forest (Premier League) 15.03.25
Forest dispatch of lacklustre Ipswich with a 4-2 win at Portman Road.
Another win for the Reds, this time away on the East Coast in a six-goal match, packing many surprises, but overall a solid performance.
The first half
Perhaps a very even first thirty minutes for both sides, despite there being shots, there wasn’t anything particularly dangerous for either side — perhaps the closest either came to scoring was a cross that rolled past the Ipswich goal, but no Forest man could get a foot to it.
Eventually, the game started to heat up a bit, and Forest were all over it.
The first goal came from the Serbian defender, Nikola Milenkovic. A corner that didn’t quite work out, found Hudson-Odoi who placed it to Dominguez on the edge of the six-yard box, who then headed into the direction of Milenkovic. The “big Serb” then hit it from the ground, and smashed it off the crossbar and in. A wonderful opener. 1-0.
Forest didn’t leave it too long before another, as Elanga looked to up the count. A breakaway started by Elliot Anderson finds Elanga, who darts down the right wing, heads to the edge of the Tractor Boys’ box, and fires past Palmer. Superb way to do it, 2-0 now — only two minutes between the opener and the second.
“Why two, when you can have three” – that’s what Elanga said (in an Andy Gray voice). Not really, but he did hit for his brace, and Forest’s third in superb passion. Turns his man after a quick breakthrough, and once again slots past Palmer. A brace in 5 minutes, wonderful work from the Swedish forward.
A fairly relaxed, even first thirty minutes, ended with a slightly chaotic three-goal run by Forest.
3-0 at Half-Time.
The second half
It started similarly to the first half, but Ipswich had a bit more fight. Delap threw himself around, won two corners, and got some shots in as a result – but it wasn’t enough.
The Tractor Boys wanted something, that first goal could change everything.
Eventually they got it, Cajuste turned Ryan Yates on the edge of the eighteen yard box, and fired it past Sels. Top bins. Cajuste today, a diamond in the rough – absolutely top of the rest of those Ipswich players, and a fine goal to go with it. 3-1.
Forest made subs, one of which was Jota Silva, and soon he found his scoring boots again. Yates found Gibbs-White for a perfect 2v1 against Cameron Burgess, and predictably Gibbs-White passes to Silva, who’s clinically sees the Reds extend their lead deep into the second half. 4-1 now the score.
Ipswich had one more punch packed though, as George Hirst gets a consolation goal in front of an emptying Portman Road — score now 4-2.
A strong result for Forest who solidify their 3rd place position, and win away in what was
anticipated to be a tighter game than it was, Forest take all three points. A superb win.
