Superstars Raise £5K For Rainbows

Carlton Town hosted an event for Superstar Speakers at Stoke Lane on Sunday afternoon featuring a Manchester United Legends team against a Nottingham Legends side that featured many players who had previously played for Nottingham Forest and Notts County.

In cold conditions in front of a record Bill Stokeld Stadium gate of 1,722 it was the Nottingham team who ran out 9-3 winners, but the real winners were Rainbow Hospice who received a cheque on the day from Superstar Speakers for £5,000.

The Manchester United team managed by Ron Atkinson included the likes of Wes Brown, David May, Lee Martin, Russel Beardsmore, Danny Webber and Clayton Blackmore whilst the Nottingham Legends team managed by Des Walker and Jason Lee who both played, had faces including Chris Cohen, Paul McKenna, Lewis McGugan and Marlon Harewood amongst others.

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton who helped arrange the event stated “The club would like to thank all the volunteers from both the committee and supporters side who gave their day up to help with this massive event, in particular the Dorking branch who travelled down and got stuck in, the planning that went into this event was like no other with meetings, hours spent on the phone and much more. the club is not going to put out a list thanking individuals because there were so many, but those who went above and beyond know who they are, so thank you very much indeed to you all”

Garton continued “One man we can name is friend of the club and former head safety officer for 3 decades at the City Ground Alan Bexon, who ran the security operation on the day for the club and it is safe to say that without someone of his experience and standing running the operation, we could not have gone ahead with the game”

“Further thanks to Mark and Danny at the Boot Room for their help with the game, Dave Wheat at Nottingham Labels, John at Budweiser, Jes and his team, Ruth at Libra, Oakfield Construction and all the staff, both at the club and at Superstar Speakers who have been a pleasure to work with”

”We are bound to have forgot a few people, so apologies if that’s the case”

One last mention was for Manchester United TV producer and presenter Karen, who purchased the first ever bottle of Champagne to be sold at Stoke Lane, she also chipped in with several interviews and volunteered to make the day a smooth success for everyone involved.
