Late Colback Strike Earns Reds Point
Queens Park Rangers 1-1 Nottingham Forest (EFL Championship) 29.10.21
Nottingham Forest came back from a goal down to rescue a point in London on Friday night as the Reds deservedly took a share of the spoils back up the M1.
Lyndon Dykes goal in first half stoppage time was eventually cancelled out by a late Jack Colback strike in second half injury time, Forest on the night playing well enough to earn something at least from the game, a match where the Reds created enough chances to win outright, with a couple of shouts for penalties too.
Forest shown resilience and great fight to come back and deny QPR all three points but must in the end be happy with a point against playoff zone pushers, near 3,000 reds fans in attendance will be delighted that Steve Cooper’s side took something at least from the game after it looked for long periods that the trip back to Nottingham would be without reward.
Joe Lolley given a start for the first time in a month, looked bright early-doors and he tested Dieng in the Rangers goal with a fierce drive well saved before Ryan Yates missed what looked like an open goal for Forest after good work by Spence in crossing low to the midfielder who stabbed wide from under the crossbar under pressure.
As the half time whistle neared, neat play by former-Red Albert Adomah ended with the winger chipping up to the back post where Lyndon Dykes was waiting to head home and give the hosts the lead.
In the second half, Adomah almost made it two, getting on the end of a looping header to head himself wide, before substitute Zinckernagel, on for Lolley, tried his luck from range with the goalkeeper equal to it.
As time looked to be running out for Forest, Ryan Yates put in a cross and as the ball was headed out of the area by a defender, Jack Colback controlled and volleyed, via a deflection into the corner of the net to earn Forest a share of the spoils and send the travelling army wild.
Head Coach Steve Cooper saying after “It was a good game and I’m just glad that we got something out of it. Mixed feelings, because I felt we should have got three points, but I’m really pleased the boys didn’t lose.”
